As assistant to Editor-in-Chief Daniel Mead (Eric Mabius), Betty soon has to battle against the scheming receptionist Amanda (Becki Newton), Amanda's sidekick Marc (Michael Urie) and Marc's boss Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams). As the three of them try and sabotage both Daniel and Betty's careers, Betty soon finds a friend in warm hearted seamstress Christina (Ashley Jenson) who knows everyone and everything that happens within the Mode building.
Armed with intelligence, determination and self belief, Betty discovers that she can offer as much, if not more, than her colleagues and soon learns to protect herself - and her boss - from the backstabbing staff. But can inner beauty really prevail over the superficial wonders of perfect skin, size 0 couture and Marc Jacobs?
